The Wyoming Brewers Festival: The Unknown Story
Jun 14, 2011
Dear Fans of the Wyoming Brewers Festival,
Thank you for your support of this community event! We're lucky to have so many people excited to attend, and we couldn't do this without you. Certainly, beer is the main course, but intoxication isn't the goal. Our mission is to provide a safe and enjoyable event to the community, while raising money for the Cheyenne Downtown Depot.
Don Budd with Allstate Insurance has again charitably sponsored free cab rides for Brewfest attendees. This act of generosity furthers our promotion of enjoying Brewfest safely and responsibly.
Laramie County Safe Communities is also sponsoring this year’s event. This program promotes safe roads and safety in general. They are paying for over half of our volunteer shirts and most of our signage to educate the public to not drink and drive.
Also, all of our volunteers and committee members are TIPS trained. The TIPS program trains servers, sellers, and consumers of alcohol on how to prevent intoxication, drunk driving, and underage drinking. The City of Cheyenne requires all servers of alcohol beverages to be TIPS trained and we welcome that requirement. We have been doing this before it was required.
The Brewfest is also working closer with the City of Cheyenne Police Department to provide additional security and oversight of the event, including plain clothes police officers checking for underage serving and drinking.
In the past, Friday was an "All you Can Drink" event. As this was convenient for attendees, it did result in some issues with consumption and theft of alcohol. As a result, Friday and Saturday night now have the same pricing structure: $20 for the cover and seven Brew Tokens. Additional tokens are $1.50 each or 4 for $5.00.
Brewfest wants to pay it forward to Cheyenne for supporting the event. For years, Brewfest has benefited one of the city's most prominent landmarks: the Historic Depot (a city owned building) and Depot Plaza. Wyoming Brewers Festival is a non-profit organization, and we donate between $17,000 - $27,000 each year to preservation and renovation of the Depot.
Food will also be available from several local vendors including Morts Bagels, Old Chicago, Jacksons, Mitchell’s BBQ and Suite 1901. We have live music lined up all night, both nights!
So bring your crew for a brew and come on down to the Depot for the Wyoming Brewers Festival. See you soon!
Cheers, Wyoming Brewers Festival
