Welcome Home Brewers!!!

This year we are pleased to announce the second Wyoming Brewer's Festival Home Brew Competition. This year we are collaborating with Altitude Chophouse & Brewery in Laramie, WY.

This year's competition will be after tax day, because what better time to enjoy good beer, in Cheyenne, WY. We are going to be doing two semifinal rounds where we will pick the top 5 beers for the night. The dates for those will be on April 16 &17. The top 5 beers picked from each night will then be judged again with fresh palates and clear heads on the night of the 18th with the winner being selected by Jared Long the head brewer with Altitude Brewery. We will let you know which semifinal round you are scheduled for and the exact time and place, but it will be in the evening as we have to support our habit somehow. For out of town people, or even in town, you don't have to be present on the 18th to win. We do encourage it, but understand that you have to support your habit as well. If you can't be present for the final round just make sure we know how to get in touch with you for any questions and to let you know if you won.

Some points of advice:

  • The best beer in the world won't be picked if it takes too long to brew. The judging is on the 18th and the festival is June 20th so plan accordingly.
  • We are not judging the beers based on the quality of your label. Although we appreciate attention to detail as much as anybody, we are more after the detail on the inside so simple labels or even unlabeled bottles are fine. Just mark it so that you know what we are tasting.
  • Remember, this beer is going to be served at the festival, so a component of the judging has to include mass appeal. We aren't looking for a bland kiddie menu beer, but if you make a chili beer that makes all the judges cry for milk it might be a uphill battle.

 

 

On the Day of the Event

Participants will need to bring six - 12 oz bottles ( two bottles will be used for the first round competition) or one growler to the tasting. This event is invite only for home brew competitiors, Wyoming Brewers Festival Committee members and Altitude staff/invitees. 

The Winner of this event will be selected by Altitude Brewery and given the opportunity to make a batch of your entry at the Brewery. 

This winning recipe will be dispensed at this year's Wyoming Brewer's Festival, June 20-21, 2014.

The winner will also get two tickets for Friday June 20th.
